What you need to know

  • The Department of Health is developing its first Disability Health Strategy.
  • The proposed strategy will set priorities and actions to improve the wellbeing of Tasmanians with disability.
  • Everyone in the Tasmanian disability sector is invited to contribute to its development.
  • Disability Providers can join a special meeting with departmental consultant Annie Curtis following the Tasmanian Hot Topics Breakfast on 8 August.

The Tasmania Department of Health is developing its first Disability Health Strategy, a shared commitment to priorities and actions within the Tasmanian Health Service to improve the health and wellbeing of people with disability in Tasmania.

The Disability Health Strategy will focus on the following pillars:

  1. providing quality health services
  2. improving the accessibility of our infrastructure
  3. empowering decision-making
  4. building our workforce
  5. improving our information systems and processes.

Community consultation

The Department of Health Tasmania has engaged Annie Curtis to lead the community consultation for the Disability Health Strategy.

The Disability Health Strategy will be driven by the priorities of community members who use our health system, in particular:

  • people with disability and their families
  • carers
  • providers of disability support
  • advocates.

NDS invites all Tasmanian disability providers to a session with Annie Curtis to discuss the Disability Health Strategy on 8 August at the Old Woolstore Hotel in Hobart. By giving the perspective of the disability service sector, you will help shape the department’s strategy.

The free session is straight after the NDS Hot Topics Breakfast, for which registrations are still open.
