What you need to know

  • The Practitioner has asked providers for data about approved physical restraint from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2022.

The Victorian Senior Practitioner is conducting a 10-year review into the authorisation and approval process and use of physical restraint in Victoria. The review aims to support safeguarding and inform best practice.

The Office of the Senior Practitioner (OSP) has contacted providers who support people who have behaviour support plans that include the approved use of physical restraint. The OSP wants information about of the use of physical restraint between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2022.

The data will be used by the OSP to inform the review to ensure effective safeguards and guide best practice.
