A message from NDS CEO Laurie Leigh

By now you are probably aware that the NDIS Commission is taking a much firmer stance on unauthorised restrictive practices and behaviour support. This follows recommendations from the Disability Royal Commission to transition to stronger compliance and enforcement and Minister Shorten’s directive to the NDIS Commissioner to implement enforcement policies that target the use of restrictive practices. 

The infringement fines have come as a shock for many, with no prior compliance notices issued for the breaches and hefty financial ramifications. Many of the breaches are for technical compliance, and most providers I have been in contact with were well underway with continuous improvement in these areas.
