As governments respond to the DRC recommendations, we work with the state on the disability inclusion and sign an Industry Skills Compact.

NDIS Commission consults providers on disability accommodation

A group of adults sit on a couch, one is smiling towards the camera

Over the next few weeks, the NDIS Commission will hold a series of consultation sessions for providers across the country on the regulations for in-home and accommodation supports. This follows the release last year of the Own Motion Inquiry into Aspects of Supported Accommodation and an action plan that aims to improve quality and maximise the choice, control and experience of participants.

The Commission would like provider views on NDIS Practice Standards and the development of practice standards for in-home services to three or more people with disability in a single dwelling. They also want providers thoughts on the separation of Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).

The consultations in the state capitals will consist of a briefing session and workshops. Although places are limited, the Commission will be holding webinars later in the year. So, there will be other chances to be part of the conversation.

Note that the definition of “shared NDIS supports provided to three or more people with disability in a single dwelling” does not include disability support for older people, short- and medium-term accommodation, respite care and residential aged care.

Registration is through the Humanitix webpage for each event. Places are limited to two people from each organisation. Lunch and afternoon tea will be provided. If you have dietary requirements, make a note when you register.
