NDS launches WA Pre-budget Submission for 2024–25

NDS WA Pre-Budget Submission Key Priorities

23/11/2023

Following extensive consultations with service providers, NDS is pleased to present its WA Pre-budget Submission (PBS) Key Priorities 2024–25. The PBS is the policy centrepiece for NDS state-level disability advocacy.

The disability sector is undergoing significant change due to the review of the NDIS, recommendations of the Disability Royal Commission, and reform of the WA disability legislation. It’s critical that NDS works in partnership with the State Government to implement reforms and ensure the WA disability sector is better equipped to provide quality and safe services.

Workforce challenges continue, and NDS call for initiatives that support workforce development, remove barriers to attracting and retaining staff, and increase diversity and cultural security in the workplace.

In Western Australia, there are around 411,500 people with disability. The sector needs more resources to fulfill the aims of the State Disability Strategy towards transformative change and equitable opportunities for people with disability in all areas of life.

In summary, NDS is calling for the State Government to fund and resource these priority areas:

Priority 1: Investing in the Disability Sector Workforce

Priority 2: Improving the Effectiveness of the NDIS

Priority 3: Building Accessible Communities and Participation

Priority 4: Adapting to further reforms.
