NDS has submitted a comprehensive set of recommendations to the NDIS Provider and Worker Registration Taskforce. Closely following Recommendation 17 of the NDIS Review, it outlines a new risk-proportionate regulatory model for all NDIS providers and workers.

We believe it will improve the visibility and regulation of NDIS providers and workers while responding strongly to concerns about quality and safeguarding.

Our submission recommends:

  • developing a comprehensive implementation plan that has clear timelines and responsibilities
  • improving initiatives that empower NDIS participants to be decision-makers
  • developing guidelines for a risk-proportionate regulatory framework for NDIS providers
  • streamlining worker-screening and mandating basic online training for NDIS workers
  • implementing a risk-proportionate regulatory framework for self-managed supports in the NDIS
  • establishing a nationally consistent community visitor scheme as a NDIS safeguard.

We stressed the importance of considering all the various viewpoints of stakeholders in the sector to create a cohesive regulatory framework. Once again, we urged the taskforce to collaborate with the sector at every stage.

The submission reflects our commitment to improving the NDIS, ensuring participant safety and supporting a vibrant disability services market.

We will keep you up to date in the next few months as the new regulatory model for the NDIS takes shape and the findings of the NDIS Provider and Worker Registration Taskforce are known.
