Over two weeks recently, NDS joined with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission in workshops for providers on regulatory burden. There has been a growing discontent about regulatory burden among NDS members and, as well as hearing updates from the Commission, the series gave them a chance to share their concerns and make suggestions for streamlining processes.

During the workshops, Tracy Mackey, NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commissioner, gave an update on the Commission’s 2022-27 Strategic Plan, which focuses on the rights of people with disability, quality services from providers and workers, and thriving, diverse markets.   The Commissioner also discussed the NDIS Commission’s regulatory approach, which defines their regulatory intent and how regulations improve quality and safeguarding. The approach regulates on many levels, using a combination of approaches and a combination of levers and tools.   We heard about a number of internal functional reviews the NDIS Commission has conducted over the last year, which include a new national approach to complaints and a review of Reportable Incidents processes.
