Applications have opened for a new round of the Victorian Women’s Public Art Program. The program creates public art that honours outstanding women, addressing the dearth of community works that celebrate their lives and achievements.

There is an opportunity for disability organisations that support people with disability to create art and have strong connections with local organisations to participate. Under the $1.2 million program, land-owning organisations, such as local councils, arts institutes and private companies, can partner with artists and community groups to create public artworks that honour outstanding Victorian women. The works can be sculptures, murals or installations; contemporary, thought-provoking or inspiring.

A previous subject of the program was the comedian, journalist, broadcaster and disability advocate Stella Young, whose statue went on display in her hometown of Stawell last year. A collective of supporters, artists and community groups, including those with lived experience of disability, joined with family and the Grampians Shire Council to successfully apply for a grant in the program.

To find out more, go to Victorian Women's Public Art Program.

Applications close on Friday 30 August.
