Winners of the 2024 WA Disability Support Awards were announced at a gala dinner held at Crown Perth on Saturday 18 May. More than 800 guests saw awards go to seven individuals and teams that have gone beyond ordinary standards of service and had a profound impact on the lives of the people they support.

In the fifteenth annual awards event, hosted by NDS in partnership with the WA Department of Communities, awardees and runners-up in seven categories were chosen from nominations from across the state.

Since inception, more than 1800 nominations for awards have been received. Such enthusiasm of the community towards the event reflects not merely the enormous reserves of passion and dedication at the heart of the disability services sector, but the great need for West Australian providers to recognise that those who go beyond ordinary standards of service can have profound impacts on the lives of people with disability and their families.

NDS is extremely proud to present the awards each year, and we congratulate all 2024 nominees, finalists and winners.

This year’s winners are:

  • Excellence in Regional Support Award — Christine Whitmore, Essential Personnel
  • Excellence in Supporting Employment Outcomes Award — Ryan Randolph, Inclusion WA
  • Excellence in Home and Family Support Award — Briana Sebeh, Crosslinks
  • Excellence in Innovation Award — Customized Employment Team, MEP Marketplace
  • Excellence in Rights Promotion — Individualized Services Team, Uniting WA
  • Services Excellence in Supporting Inclusion and Citizenship Award — Nicholas Ardley, Inclusion WA
  • Emerging Leader Award — Katherine Campbell, Uniting WA.

NDS in WA State Manager, Frances Buchanan, said the awards played an important role in building a quality disability workforce, showcasing best practice in disability support and promoting the sector as a great place to work. NDS was delighted to receive over 140 nominations this year, highlighting the achievements of disability service providers and their employees from across our State.

“The WA disability sector is experiencing significant workforce pressures — skilled, values-driven workers are a primary safeguard to providing safe, quality services and meeting the needs of people with disability.

“The WA Disability Support Awards demonstrate the very real difference that people working this sector can make to the lives of people with disability and the communities we live in,” she said.

Among the 800 guests were Minister for Local Government, the Hon. Hannah Beazley, and the Minister for Disability, the Hon. Don Punch. Mr Punch said, “On behalf of the West Australian community, I would like to congratulate the winners and thank all the nominees for their hard work, passion and ideas. The work they do is integral to building an inclusive and equitable society.

“We know that a highly competent and skilled local disability workforce is essential and attracting and retaining workers with the right skills, values and attitudes is crucial.

“Together the Cook Government and the disability sector are committed to ensuring quality services and the highest standard of support for people with disability, their families and their carers.”

In a media release from Minister Punch released on Sunday, He formally congratulated all the winners and nominees for all their great service to the community.

NDS sincerely thanks Lotterywest, who supported people with disability to attend the event alongside the support workers they nominated.
