NDS holds more information sessions on the Disability and Social Services Regulation Amendment Act 2023
In May last year, the Victorian Government passed the Disability and Social Services Amendment Act 2023 to strengthen the rights and protections of Victorians with disability and streamline or change some of the requirements for providers. The Amendment Act changes four other acts, affecting the provisions for restrictive practices and compulsory treatment (from 24 May 2023), residential rights in disability accommodation (from 1 July 2024), information sharing (from 27 March 2024), social service regulation (from 1 July 2024), and worker screening (from 20 September 2023). It also introduced new provider offences.
NDS is holding a series of free online information sessions for providers, going through the changes one by one and showing what they mean for your organisation. Our first session, giving an overview of the new legislation and the key changes, was held on 1 May. (If you missed it, you can watch a recording on our website.)
In June, we are going deeper into aspects of the changes with three more online sessions.
Session Two: Residential tenancies in disability accommodation and the community visitors program
This session is important for providers of NDIS SDA or SIL services or similar settings funded by the TAC, DFFH, WorkCover and the Commonwealth DSOA program.

Session Three (Part A): Restrictive practices and compulsory treatment
This session is important for providers developing or implementing restrictive practices or compulsory treatment.

Time: 9:30 to 10:45am
Session Three (Part B): Residential services and forensic disability services
This session is important for organisations providing residential and forensic disability services.
Date: Wednesday 26 June
Time: 10:45 to 11:15am
For organisations providing services funded by the NDIS, DFFH, the TAC, WorkCover or the Commonwealth Disability Supports for Older Australians program, these sessions will get you up to speed with the legal changes and your obligations.
